Superior Design. Superior Execution. Superior Support.
Welcome to The Audio/Video Specialists. Amongst our 3 primary members of our project team, we now have over 35 years of experience in the business. I founded the company in 2005 with the lofty goal to create design and build complete home integration systems that become much more than the sum of their parts. They had to actually work. We had to deliver the experience that we offered before the sale was completed. And most importantly we had to deliver after sale service above everyone else. I am pleased to say that so far we have delivered upon that goal. As you read this, I am sure you are thinking, “Of course I would buy a working system, oh master of the obvious.” Well, if you have never been down the electronic integration road before, then you may have a rude awakening, so please be careful. It can be a tough sell for us, too. If you have never invested in a home automation system previously, it can be difficult to understand what really goes into the design and installation of a rock solid system. It’s very easy to get lost if the glitz and glamor of the fun aspects such as the audio and video, the cool touch panels, or your rocking home theater. A great many companies take dangerous shortcuts. They try to figure out how to make it work as they install it. They don’t plan ahead in the design process. A working system is probably the most obvious thing you would ever “assume” you have purchased. And yet we encounter post-purchase systems that do anything but that. Worse than that, we don’t win every proposal, as a client may choose to go with their “buddy,” or they found a guy that can do it cheaper. In the end it’s a pretty small industry in Colorado, and we usually hear the results through someone else at some point. And more than a couple times, we heard complaints that the client wasn’t happy, the system didn’t quite work right, etc. And unfortunately, it’s now too late. The money has been spent, and now they have to live with it or pay more to “fix” it… usually way more.
We complete projects both large and small. Our project ranges have gone from $2500 to $500,000. We take the same enthusiasm, care, and thoroughness with every job. Isn’t it nice to know that no matter what size your project is, it will be handled by some of the best minds in the business?
If you have ever built a house or remodeled a home, you know that mistakes are made. One thing has held true for the past 6 years. It isn’t about the mistakes. It’s about how mistakes are avoided in the first place due to diligent design practices. It’s about how mistakes that do happen are fixed. We spend a lot of time fixing systems installed by others or ripping them out and replacing them. It is some times difficult to be the bearer of that bad news, but the story told below is consistently the same. It really bothers me. Frighteningly, these stories aren’t isolated to small shop integrators. Many of these jobs have been completed by some of the larger companies in the state.
“We bought this system 3-5 years ago. It’s never quite worked the way they said it would. They have been out here many times, but they have never gotten it to work. Now they don’t return our phone calls or they went out of business.” – Anonymous customer referring to the previous integrator
It hasn’t always been easy even for us. Although my educational background is in engineering and I have a strong affinity for fun toys, I did not splinter off from the various companies that prevailed in Denver 10 years ago. Yes, I have a strong programming background, but I had not yet played in the field with the likes of AMX or Crestron when I started the company in 2005.
I named the company The Audio/Video Specialists as I wanted it to be descriptive. Although now, I wish I would have picked something a little more catchy and fun. I knew from the beginning that I wanted us to be a leader in home integration of all types, not just audio and video systems. Right before I started the company, I had spent the last year and half in the training department of Soundtrack/Ultimate Electronics. As a result I became one of the most knowledgeable people in the entire company on every line that they carried. I didn’t realize that I would be ill-prepared to play in the high-end home automation design and installation when I first started. One of our first successul integrations was in 2006 for a $350,000 project in Willow Springs. However, I will be the first to admit that it started off a mess. Under-trained, under-prepared and working with a builder who wouldn’t listen to the homeowner’s decisions let alone mine, made for a very challenging project. The client essentially gave us an open checkbook to create an electronics paradise for them. No, that doesn’t happen very often. They knew this was more than I had ever tackled to this point. And, no, they are not crazy. In fact, they are quite careful with their money, but they want what they want and have no problem paying for it. We overcame challenge after challenge, and those of you reading this may wonder why in the world, they would hire someone with very little experience in this arena. The bottom line is integrity. No matter what happens, they know that we would never let them down. We would do whatever it took to deliver what we said that we would. And just because we had an open checkbook doesn’t mean we could blow budgets. Every expense was documented and reasonable. By the end the project the builder was fired, almost all the subs were fired, due to poor execution and service. Only two teams remained and still remain to this day – the interior designer and us. Why? Because in the end we both delivered what we said we would deliver. We always answered the phone when it rang, and we always showed up to take care of a problem promptly and efficiently. That was over 5 years ago. Advance to present day, and we have still found those are pretty rare qualities. Our knowledge, skill, and experience has grown exponentially since that time, and I believe there is virtually no one else in the state that can deliver our level of completely integrated home with the highest levels of design, reliability, and support.
Since that project the industry has changed dramatically. We are reminded of one thing every day. Our industry is a moving target… a fast moving target. It makes it difficult for us to keep up, and we live it every day. But everyone involved with The Audio Video Specialists loves this stuff. We sleep, eat, and breathe it. We are constantly refining and improving our techniques to make sure that you receive the most incredible, fun, and reliable system possible. So if you want a design team to amaze you with the possibilities and actually deliver the experience, then look no further than us. Contact us now. Don’t wait until you are in the middle of the project. Home technology design starts when the first pencil gets to paper, and for you that means a much more successful project and experience. And again, we do projects of all sizes and budgets. We don’t turn down work because we feel it is below us. That is yet another quality that separates us from our competition. Isn’t it nice to know that the same level of expertise and support that installs half-million dollar systems will still provide you with the same professionalism, expertise, and system support no matter how much your budget is? Welcome to The Audio Video Specialists. Let us make your home more convenient, efficient, and fun!
