Ironically, it is the same thing that made Windows the platform of choice for the last 20 years. &lt;strong&gt;Software&lt;/strong&gt;. People can complain about the lack of Flash ability, or processor speed, or screen ratio, or whatever. In the end none of those things have anything to do with the success of the iPad or  iPhone. It is the ubiquity of these devices, starting with the original iPod that now drives these products. It is the fact that everyone is making software for it, and true to their marketing, you can search for just about anything you can imagine, and there really is &quot;an app for that.&quot; It is only a natural progression that the iPad would become a primary interface for controlling your home. With native Mac integration Savant home automation systems have taken advantage of this device better than anyone. However, I will say that Control4 has managed to come in at a pretty close second.</description>
